Wedding photographer photographing a bride getting ready

Business as usual

Mar 16, 2020 | Uncategorized

The last few weeks have been a little strange and at times confusing. With lots of concern about Covid-19 and how it affects our health and our day to day life.

How does this affect my work with you?

For me it really is business as usual, I have weddings and newborn shoots booked in, along with pre-wedding shoots and meetings with potential clients, these will still go ahead. Being self-employed I do not have the luxury of sick pay, if I don’t work I don’t earn and being honest I have a mortgage to pay. So unless the Government brings in any measures to prevent me I will be at your wedding/shoot or meeting.

Will this affect my wedding photography?

In a word no, you have booked me/us and we will be there. We have no intention of canceling on anyone. The only thing that would stop us from attending your wedding is if the Government brings in measures preventing the wedding from going ahead or if we ourselves had to self isolate. If we did have to self isolate I have a network of trusted photographers who would jump in at a moment’s notice, your wedding will be photographed. I am on call in this manner for fellow photographers as well. We will make sure someone is there for you. Someone we know and trust to look after you and who has the same skill set we have. Most likely us, we want to be there for you.

On the day it’s self we will take more breaks to wash our hands as we move from venue to venue and take measures to ensure our equipment is cleaned throughout the day. It will also be a bit odd not giving you hug goodbye at the end but we can work out our own combination of elbow and foot taps.

Will this affect my newborn/family/portrait shoot?

Again no. The studio is cleaned after each shoot/meeting. We have hand gel available or you can access a sink in our house if you prefer soap and water. All handles are regularly sanitized and the studio space is only open to pre-booked appointments, meaning it has a low footfall. All props that you or your family come into contact with are washed or cleaned post-shoot as well. Of course, if you feel unwell, let me know and we can re-schedule.

What precautions are we taking?

Those of you who have met us will know that while my name is on the business (Emma) my husband Grant is a huge part and support to this, whilst still holding down his day job. As of last Friday his office has advised staff to work from home for at least the next 2 weeks, so he’s sat next to me right now working away. Working from home instantly makes you fairly isolated, we go out to walk our dog, our food shop gets delivered, we found it helps us eat healthier. So we are already avoiding close contact with people just from the way we live. We don’t tend to eat out much anyway and will be avoiding that apart from at weddings for the time being. Our only challenge will be spending so much time together! I’m not used to sharing my office space.

Like most of you, we are washing our hands more regularly, cleaning our door handles, trying our best to keep up with exercise and healthy eating so that should we catch this virus we’ll be in a good position to fight it off. At weddings and meetings, we will observe social distancing a meter apart where we can and no more hugs, which is such a hard habit to break, but we want to there for all our couples. It also means no more giving children high fives and fist bumps as well or letting them ‘help’ us take photos. I am also not on social media as much, there’s lots of fake news and panic so I have made the decision to temporarily block people and just be on there less. So I might be a little slower than usual to reply to you on social media, but I will reply.

So we are still here, still working and excited for upcoming weddings, shoots, and meetings. So please do still get in touch with us, whilst we love to meet face to face if your more comfortable over the phone or on Skype we can do that instead.
If you want to get in touch drop us a message, head here to get in touch.
